The Prairieland Detention Center in Alvarado is a large, modern facility. It  has a 44,801 square-foot administration and processing building and a 70,440 square-foot housing building. The facility also includes multiple athletic fields.

At peak capacity, the center can house approximately 700 detainees. The facility was designed to meet safety and accessibility standards, including free parking and ADA accessibility for individuals with special needs.

Prairieland Detention Visiting Hours and Rules

Visitation at the Prairieland detention facility is subject to ICE guidelines and security classifications. Social visits typically require advance scheduling, and availability may vary depending on the detainee’s housing unit and custody level.

Attorneys are generally permitted to visit detainees Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., with limited hours available on weekends and federal holidays. Legal visits do not usually require advance scheduling. Virtual legal visits may also be available through ICE-approved systems.

It’s also important to know that detainees cannot receive incoming calls, but you can leave a message at the facility by calling (817) 409-3995 and giving the detainee’s full name, alien registration number, and your contact info.
